WESTERN AUSTRALIA NATIONALS

Club member Dick Bushell teamed up with some other NSW rodders and made the trip to Busselton for the W.A. Nationals.

Dick along with Brad Goodhand left Yamba and headed for Nyngan for their first overnight stop.

The next stop was Broken Hill where they spent 2 days before meeting up with 2 Newcastle rodders (Trevor May and Steve Thompson). They were towing their hot rods behind their buses. They were also joined by Brian and Daphne Boyd from Casino and met up with Phil and Wendy McNally from Geelong Rodders at Norseman.

The group then headed off to Kimba, which is halfway across Australia, for their next overnight stop. They then went on to Streaky Bay and did the tourist bit.

The next day they headed across the Nullarbor to Eucla. Fuel prices were approx &1.85 per litre. After Eucla they drove on to Norseman where they spent the night before heading south to Esperance and then on to Albany.

When they arrived at Albany they were met by a local hot rodder who invited them to their shed night, (which was the next night).

Then off to Busselton.

It was a long trip (averaging between 500/700 kms per day) but they enjoyed the experience and were very impressed with the warm welcome they received from the W.A. rodders.

All the cars in the group were Ford powered Fords and apart from Dick having to replace a windscreen (after a truck threw a rock at him) the rods went like clockwork. The cars averaged between 18 - 24 miles per gallon and the fuel cost was about $2000 (about 1500 litres) to cover the 9000 kms.
